about

In the years between 2018 and 2022 Ulrike Mann hiked in stages along the former innergerman border from the Vogtland (Thuringia) to the Baltic Sea. On that way she carried 100 amulets in her baggage, which were given to here by the now deceased guardian of the Marienborn chapel. These Maria dedicated amulets were placed at “wounded“ places by the artist.

She encountered scary and beautiful moments along her way on what is now called the green ribbon. Back at home and inbetween her hikings Ulrike Mann processed her impressions artistically in the shape of paintings and objects.

Additionally grew - out of her border hikings - a kind of performance art in the Harz mountains , a landscape which was cut by many still viewable fortifications and measures of border control till 1989. In recent time the Harz mountains are hit painfully by drought and dying forests, thus reflected by the topic Harz Requiem.

Moved and inspired by Ulrike Mann´s work Werner Lindner created the „soundtrack“ to the exhibition.
